Past Informal:
  • Verbs ending in RU:
    • Remove ru --> Replace with ta

The "Te" form

The Te form is used for making requests:
  • Request:
    • 見てください! (mite kudasai!)

  • Command:
    • 見て! (mite!)

  • Formal or Polite:
    • 見てくれますか? (mite kuremasu ka?)


In order to get the Te form, first change the verb to its Past Informal form and then replace the verb using the following guideline:
  • Verbs ending in RU:
    • Past Informal: Remove ru --> Replace with ta
    • Te form: Remove ta --> Replace with te

  • Verbs ending in NU, BU, MU:
    • Past Informal: Remove nu/bu/mu --> Replace with nda
    • Te form: Remove da --> Replace with de

  • Verbs ending in SU:
    • Past Informal: Remove su --> Replace with shita
    • Te form: Remove ta --> Replace with te

  • Verbs ending in KU:
    • Past Informal: Remove ku --> Replace with ita
    • Te form: Remove ta --> Replace with te

  • Verbs ending in GU:
    • Past Informal: Remove gu --> Replace with ida
    • Te form: Remove da --> Replace with de

  • Verbs ending in TSU, U:

Te Ru form (Te Iru in written context only):
  • Simply add Ru to the Te form

Formal Past Te Ru form:

The "Can" form

In order to express something that can be done or not using a verb, replace the verb using the following guideline:

Informal Can form:
  • Verbs ending in RU:
    • Remove ru --> Replace with reru

  • Verbs ending in GU, KU, NU, BU, MU, SU, TSU, U:
    • Remove u --> Replace with eru


Formal Can form:
  • Verbs ending in RU:
    • Remove ru --> Replace with remasu

  • Verbs ending in GU, KU, NU, BU, MU, SU, TSU, U:
    • Remove u --> Replace with emasu


Informal Negative:
  • Verbs ending in RU:
    • Remove ru --> Replace with renai

In order to express something that you are either thinking on doing or suggesting to do using a verb, replace the verb using the following guideline:

Let's Do form:
  • Verbs ending in RU:
    • Remove ru --> Replace with you

  • Verbs ending in GU, KU, NU, BU, MU, SU, TSU, U:
    • Remove u --> Replace with ou

  • Irregular Verbs:
    • Kuru --> Koyou
    • Suru --> Shiyou


Thinking of form:
  • Simply add toomou to the Let's Do form


Formal Let's Do:
  • Simply change the verb to its Masu form
  • Remove masu --> Replace with mashou

The "Must Do" form

In order to express something that must be done using a verb, replace the verb using the following guideline:

Simply change the verb to its Present Negative Informal form

Informal form:
  • Remove nai --> Replace with nakutewadame


Formal form:
  • Remove nai --> Replace with nakutewaikenai


Negative Formal form:
  • Remove nai --> Replace with nakutewaikemasen


Prohibition:
  • Remove nai --> Replace with nakutewanaranai


Prohibition Negative:
  • Remove nai --> Replace with nakutewanarimasen
